REQUIRED EXPLANATION OF REQUEST
The Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation respectfully requests Controlling Board approval to waive competitive selection in the amount of $197,000.20 from fund 8260, ALI 85609 (Safety & Hygiene Operating) and fund 7023, ALI 855407 (Claims, Risk & Medical Mangmnt) in FY18, to renew the contract with Greater Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, Ohio, Franklin County to provide meeting and exposition space, utilities and ancillary services for the annual Ohio Safety Congress & Expo and Ohio Workers Compensation Medical & Health Symposium.

The annual Ohio Safety Congress & Expo continues to be the largest occupational safety and health state conference in the United States. Last year's safety congress hosted a record number of participants, 7,610 individuals, representing 2,594 Ohio businesses. The free, three-day event offered general sessions, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, simulations and demonstrations.

The safety congress also co-hosted the second annual Ohio Workers' Compensation Medical & Health Symposium. This program offered educational sessions on the comprehensive care of injured workers for physicians and health-care providers.

The Ohio Safety Congress & expo has been serving Ohio employers with workforce safety and health education since 1929. The Ohio Workers' Compensation Medical & Health Symposium was established in 2015 as a sub-track of the Ohio Safety Congress & Expo. Its success resulted in a stand-alone conference held concurrently with the Ohio Safety Congress & Expo beginning in 2016.

BWC will utilize State Term Schedule Number 800554 / Index Number STS530 to contract with the Greater Columbus Convention Center for the use of this venue. Please note the Greater Columbus Convention Center is the only vendor on this State Term Schedule and therefore the only quote received.

The 2018 Ohio Safety Congress & Expo and 2018 Ohio Workers' Compensation Medical & Health Symposium, sponsored by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, will be held March 7-9 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

The annual three-day Safety Congress is the largest state safety and health exposition in the United States. More than 7,000 safety-minded business representatives and employees attend the event. It offers general sessions, panel discussions, product demonstrations, exhibits, roundtable discussions and networking opportunities. In addition, more than 150 educational sessions and 250 exhibits help private businesses and public entities control their workers' compensation costs and keep their workforce safe and healthy. Exhibitors display the latest advances in safety and health training, equipment, technology and services.

The annual two-day Medical & Health Symposium is BWC's world-class educational opportunity for Ohio's medical providers. The symposium focuses on the comprehensive care for injured workers by offering dedicated tracks of education for clinical providers, including physicians, nurses, chiropractors, occupational and physical therapists, pharmacists, psychologists and vocational rehabilitation specialists, and their office support staff. The presenters are nationally-recognized specialists in research, neuropsychology, pharmacology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, wellness, alternative medicine and orthopedic surgery. We anticipate 700 to 800 individuals to attend.

Rental and ancillary fees for hosting the Safety Congress at the Greater Columbus Convention Center is $197,000.20. This includes facility rental for meeting and exposition space, meeting room furnishings and equipment, telescopic seating for demonstrations, electrical service for lighting, sound and registration, rigging labor to hang signage and lighting, daily cleaning of exposition aisle carpet, internet service for registration, speaker presentations and headquarter office and security personnel. Beverage service (coffee/tea/water) is also provided at both events.
