REQUIRED EXPLANATION OF REQUEST
  The Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation respectfully requests Controlling Board approval of an agency-released competitive opportunity in the amount of $196,546.62 for FY20 from fund 8260, ALI 855609 (Safety and Hygiene) to purchase 14-EDGE 5-10 unit packs with dock AC-300 calibrator kits (dosimeters) from Premier Safety, Miamisburg, OH.  
  BWC's Division of Safety & Hygiene (DSH) provides a variety of programs, services and resources to help Ohio employers create a safe and healthy workplace. Our mission is to maintain a healthy, productive and competitive workforce in Ohio by preventing occupational accidents, injuries and illnesses. BWC's safety and health professionals throughout the state are available to help every Ohio employer in every industry reduce the risk of employee injury and illness.

BWC's industrial hygiene consultants help employers in all industries determine occupational exposures and reduce the risk of occupational illnesses due to environmental stressors, noise, and contact with or inhalation of chemicals, harmful dusts, fumes or vapors.

Noise sampling - We can use sound level meters and noise dosimeters to determine noise levels, compare results to exposure guidelines, and help develop noise reduction interventions and hearing conservation programs.

Regularly, BWC safety and health consultants have been experiencing numerous failures with existing noise dosimeter equipment at employer worksites. This equipment is vital to BWC's responsibility to promote safety in the workplace. The failures result in wasted travel time, inconvenience to the employer, and embarrassment to BWC. The current noise dosimeters being used by BWC's Safety & Hygiene field staff have an annual failure rate of approximately 20 percent. BWC repairs them using new parts when available and used parts from equipment that is beyond repair. Over 70 percent of the noise dosimeters in use are more than eleven years old, well past the normal useful life for this type of equipment. This request to purchase new noise dosimeter equipment will greatly assist to alleviate the current situation of failing equipment.
 
  Additional appropriation for the dosimeters was approved on Controlling Board Number BWC0100144, 2/10/2020.
