REQUIRED EXPLANATION OF REQUEST
The Department of Natural Resources respectfully requests Controlling Board approval to release $175,000.00 from Fund 7031, ALI C72512 (Land Acquisition), in FY18, for the purchase of 0.730 acres of real estate from Dennis J & Joyce Aselage in Shelby County as part of the spillway improvements project at Lake Loramie State Park.
Lake Loramie Dam is an earthen embankment that is 1.2 miles long and 23 feet high. The dam impounds 829 acres of water at normal pool. Construction of the dam was finished in 1844 and additional spillway modifications were completed around 1935. Lake Loramie Dam is regulated by the ODNR Dam Safety Program as a Class I structure with probable loss of life in the event of a dam failure. The dam improvements will serve as an Interim Risk Reduction Measure to help bring the dam into compliance with Ohio dam safety laws and rules. The project is located in Lake Loramie State Park, off State Route 362, approximately one mile north of Fort Loramie, Ohio.

The dam improvement project currently underway will replace the spillway at Lake Loramie Dam located in Lake Loramie State Park in Shelby County, construct a new embankment and parapet wall, and modify the left abutment. The property associated with this request is located on the downstream toe of the dam, directly adjacent to the spillway replacement project. Acquiring the property is critical to maintaining the integrity of the dam by eliminating structures, wherever possible, that have the potential to weaken the structural integrity of the dam. It will also ensure long term public access to the dam and spillway.

This property is being purchased from a willing seller.

The property is located on a Class I dam.
